“Diving Chess” is one of the more unusual games offered at the Mind Sports Olympiad, which runs Aug. 18th through the 27th at the University of London Union.
London’s Summer Olympics might be over but a host of competitors blessed with mental agility are gathering in the city for this annual event.
Dozens of different games, ranging from Poker, Monopoly, Scrabble and Backgammon to Twixt, Mental Calculations and traditional Chess are being played. The event, held at various locations in England since 1997, has drawn thousands of competitors and awarded medals to players from more than 50 countries.
Diving Chess, which debuted last year at the event, is played in a pool. Opponents have only as much time as they can hold their breath underwater to consider their next move.
Sounds like a game you can plunge right into.
